HTC Touch Pro 2

The HTC Touch Pro 2 has been available for a while now so I figured we should look at how people are liking the phone so far and how it’s holding up. Windows Mobile phones have been few and far between but the HTC Touch Pro 2 is one that people are still talking about and the demand has been steady.

HTC Touch Pro 2

This phone features a large touch screen that folds up nicely to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard.  It has all of the essentials including wi-fi, GPS, and bluetooth, while also adding things you don’t see on many phones including conference call management as you can see displayed in the picture above. Before I give away too much, let’s get to the actual review.

The Good – This phone has a lot going for it so this may take a while.  Call quality is great on this phone which makes it great for business users along with all of the professional features.  The keyboard is reviewed well by users which seems rare these days.  The phone is bright, clear, and responsive so again, you can’t knock this phone on it’s aesthetics. A lot of people mention that they like this OS better than the others on the market but I think that’s pretty dependent on the individual user.  The apps on this phone get a lot of acclaim as well as the ease of downloading new applications.  Other positive features include a stylus for easy navigation, and international phone call support.  Now let’s move on to the negative issues.

The Bad – Unfortunately with this phone, the bad section will be equally lengthy.  I think the first thing people mention about this phone is the fact that it’s SLOW.  It has a small amount of on-board memory which may account for some of the issues but a lot of people report a large amount of freezes as well.  Most people agree that this is a great phone…when it works.  The failures, glitches, and lack of support from HTC have frustrated almost every user that has had this phone for more than a couple months.  As I mentioned earlier this phone is also very heavy, which personally doesn’t bother me but a lot of people do complain about it.

Overall – The phone has a lot of promise for the future, but it’s not ready for primetime yet.  Microsoft needs to go back and fix it’s software first of all and there are also a couple hardware issues that could be touched up as well.  I have a feeling this phone will make a comeback with its next incarnation, but I wouldn’t recommend picking up this phone at this point.  With the Blackberry Bold 9650, the Samsung Galaxy phones, and HTC Desire, there’s just too many good phones out there right now to make this a top competitor in the smartphone market.
